In the late inspirational rapper’s hometown of Los Angeles, the 2019 BET Awards will be honor Nipsey Hussle with the Humanitarian Award for his philanthropy and dedicated work to his community. Performances by DJ Khaled, YG and John Legend just to name a few of the stars that will pay tribute to Hussle during the ceremony.
“As a prolific artist and leader, Nipsey Hussle was zealous about driving change for the betterment of his community, empowering and employing those in need and being an influential and highly respected leader. His passing was a tremendous loss to the entertainment industry and to the culture,” BET Executive Vice President and Head of Programming Connie Orlando stated.
“We will continue to remember his advocacy and be inspired by the groundwork he set forth and his dire commitment to social change. We are forever grateful, humbled and honored to have experienced his presence and we are invested in doing our part to ensure that the marathon will indeed continue. It is an immense honor for us to recognize him with this year’s Humanitarian Award.”
Not only was Hussle a loving father of two and husband to the beautiful Lauren London, but worked he hard to progress his community in many ways, finding employment for underprivileged groups through real estate investments, helping fund science and tech learning centers for teens in addition to his music career. Truly a man trying to do good in the world.
On March 31 outside of his South Los Angeles clothing store, Marathon Clothing, Hussle was shot multiple times by a known gang affiliate. His bail has been set to a whopping $7,040,000. Following his death, many stars and fans took to social media to pay tribute to the rapper.
The 2019 BET Awards are set to be held Sunday, June 23, at the Microsoft Theater. The ceremony will be broadcast on BET, starting at 8 p.m. ET.
