Aside from acting side by side in Barbie, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling lead the Ocean’s 11 prequel. FTIA’s Production List revealed that production will begin in France at the end of June. It’ll be directed by Jay Roach, the visionary behind the many Austin Powers films and Bombshell.
The Ocean 11 prequel is said to be “a 1960s heist/love story, set at the Monaco Grand Prix.” While at a press junket for High Desert, Roach shared how he felt about Robbie and the movie’s artistic direction.
“Margot brought it to me as a kind of old-fashioned epic love story slash adventure disguised as a heist,” Roach said. “It is still a heist movie but a love story. And we were both inspired by Hitchcock, To Catch a Thief and Notorious. It just wants to be a big, big, you know, cinematic spectacle. We didn’t quite sync up yet on the right budget.”
Roach adds, “Originally, there were some questions about whether it would be weird to have (Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling) together again after Barbie.
But there are just some pairings you want to see repeatedly. It’s such a powerful, powerful duo, you know? And it’s the suspense of whether they will come together; will they trust each other enough to team up? That’s romantic.”
Ocean 11‘s prequel has yet to set a date on when it’ll air.
