Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has provided a fresh update on the highly anticipated film starring Cillian Murphy. First revealed by Netflix in June 2024, the movie is penned by Knight himself and will see Murphy reprising his role as Thomas Shelby. Tom Harper is set to direct the movie.
In a recent conversation with The Playlist, Knight shared exciting details surrounding the film’s release. When asked whether Netflix had approved a theatrical release, Knight didn’t hesitate, saying,
“Yes. Well, I’ve just made that announcement. So, yes.” He credited the passionate Peaky Blinders fanbase for making it happen, emphasizing that their enthusiasm was key to bringing the movie to the big screen.

He elaborated on his vision for the experience, saying, “I want audiences to watch this together, in a cinema, instead of experiencing it virtually. There’s something powerful about sharing this moment in the same space.”
Knight also hinted that the Peaky Blinders‘ story is far from over.
When asked about potential spin-offs, he left room for thought, stating, “There’s so much more we can explore. We can just keep pushing forward, moving through different eras.”
He made it clear that as long as there’s demand, he’s willing to keep the world of Peaky Blinders alive.
“If people want more, and I have stories to tell, then why not?” he said.
Back in February, speaking with BBC Breakfast, Knight teased similar prospects. “I’m not allowed to officially announce anything yet,” he revealed, “but I can say this: Peaky Blinders isn’t finished.”
