Quinta Brunson is set to star in and produce a new movie about Betty Boop.
The film will focus on the origin of Betty Boop and how the character grew over time through Max Fleischer‘s vision. It will also explore the relationship between artists and their creative ideas. The plot also focuses on how Betty Boop begins to “take on a life of her own.”
The movie marks Betty Boop’s first starring role in a film since the 1930s, when she became one of animation’s first female stars through Fleischer Studios’ Talkartoons series. Brunson will produce the project through her company Fifth Chance Productions alongside Fleischer.

“Betty Boop is one of our nation’s most beloved cartoon characters, yet somehow still remains pleasantly niche,” Brunson said. “After Erin and I met with Mark and learned more about his grandfather’s creation of Betty, I realized there was a much deeper story to tell.”
She added that the story could be told in a way that feels “refreshing, subversive, and timeless, much like Betty herself.” Fleischer praised Brunson’s ideas for the film and said he “was breath-taken” when she first shared the idea with him.
