Deadline brings word that Charlie Kaufman, the genius behind Netflix’s I’m Thinking Of Ending Things, will be partnering with Amazon for the film, The Memory Police. The Handmaid’s Tale’s director, Reed Morano, will also be behind this film’s lens. This forthcoming film is based on Yoko Ogawa’s 1994 novel of the same name.
The storyline focuses on an unnamed island off an anonymous coast where things have started to disappear, beginning small with ribbons and roses and progressively growing into photographs. However, a few people can remember the things that no longer exist, but the Memory Police are determined to make sure that what has been erased stays a distant thought.
When a young novelist realizes her book editor is one of the few people still able to remember things, she surrounds him in a room under her floorboards, and the two struggle to hold onto the truth as the world closes in around them.
Keep that memory intact for what’s to come. The Memory Police will premiere soon.
