Shooting for the Stars

Romantic-comedy ‘Fly Me to the Moon,’ starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, arrives in theaters July 14th. The film, directed by Greg Berlanti, takes place during the historic Apollo 11 moon landing in 1968.

The plot of ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ revolves around Kelly Jones (Scarlett Johansson), a marketing professional hired to enhance NASA’s public image during the Apollo 11 mission. Her responsibilities include orchestrating a simulated moon landing as a contingency plan, which leads to complications with launch director Cole Davis (Channing Tatum).

Casting: Romantic Comedy

In the film, Scarlett Johansson takes on the part of Kelly Jones, and Channing Tatum plays the character of Cole Davis. Jim Rash, Ray Romano, and Woody Harrelson round out the supporting cast. Greg Berlanti directs, with a screenplay by Rose Gilroy, and Johansson serves as a producer as well.

As reported by the media outlets, Apple acquired the rights to this film after winning a bidding war in 2022 and securing a $100 million deal. Scarlett Johansson is one of the producers for the film. The original director was Jason Bateman, but he left the project due to creative differences. Tatum then stepped in to take on the role of the launch director, replacing Chris Evans who had been previously attached to that role.
