While the COVID-19 pandemic has made everybody’s lives a little more interesting over the past year, few people have had as interesting of a year as Britney Spears. After being hurled into the spotlight over the past year as legal battles have raged on over her questionable conservatorship, Spears is receiving some autonomy over her life for the first time since her breakdown in the mid-2000’s. While the pop superstar is sure to be relieved about this, it has been nothing short of an uphill battle for Spears as she has fought for the right to make her own decisions once again after years of being controlled by her father. Now that battle is the subject of a new project set to debut this evening on FX and Hulu titled Controlling Britney Spears that will take an inside look into the hell that has been Britney Spears’ life in recent years.
While Spears’ conservatorship has been widely discussed in the media in recent months, it has led to many questions and concerns from fans who simply cant make sense of the unfair situation. The topic was originally addressed in the documentary Framing Brittney Spears that released on Hulu earlier this year, which the new project is supposed to be a sequel of. In it, complaints that Spears had made back in 2016 claiming that her conservatorship was being used as “an oppressive and controlling tool against her” since her father took the reins of her life in 2008. These claims were officially published for the first time by The Times last week, and now they are set to be the subject of the upcoming documentary Controlling Britney Spears that is set to premiere on FX and Hulu tonight with her next court hearing scheduled for next week.
While the release of this new project is seemingly coming just in time for Spears’ next court hearing, the worst is over for the iconic pop star. Now she is in the final stages of removing her father from her conservatorship while additionally gearing up to marry her new fiancé, highlighting the beginning of a new chapter for Spears. Before that chapter begins however, viewers will get the chance to hear Spears’ side of things when Controlling Britney Spears premieres on FX and Hulu this evening.
