The extended and reinvented version of “The Lord of the Rings” series.
Over the weekend, Fathom Events hosted a three-day marathon featuring Peter Jackson’s original trilogy, showcasing extended editions of The Lord of the Rings:The Fellowship of the Ring on Saturday The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers on Sunday. Despite the marathon ending, the films continue to maintain their position in the top 10 the box office.
Daily Box Office
The Lord of the Rings trilogy has delivered impressive performances at the domestic box office, with another week remaining in the special engagement. “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was re-issued on June 8 and made a comeback on June 14, followed by the other parts of the series. “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” was released on June 15 and followed up on the same day. Finally, the last installment of the series, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, was released on June 10 and will continue showing until June 16.
The franchise has earned a total of $7.2 million at the daily box office with additional films added. Each series is making a return day by day. In the first movie, Frodo Baggins, played by Elijah Wood, embarks on an epic quest with his friends to destroy The Evil One Ring.
Perfomance
During the re-issuing of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, made a total grossed of $2.4 million on the first day and $600,000 on the second day. While the performance of The Two Towers saw a gross of $1.9 million on day one followed up by a whopping $500,000 on day two. Lastly, The Return of King, directed by Jackson from 2001 to 2003, made $1.7 million on the first day. With three weeks remaining of this special re-release, we can only expect the numbers to rise.
