The original comedy movie The Sister Act was announced in 2020. The franchise ranked in $231 million worldwide on a $31 million budget. With musician-actress Tanya Trotter working on an update for the third installment, filming for the new movie will start soon.
In the Sister Act series, Trotter had a role as a choir member in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. Reports indicate that she will have a starring role in the upcoming installment. However, details about the plot are currently kept a secret, leading to a lack of updates on the movie’s progress.

The script for the third installment has been confirmed as completed, however, Trotter has not yet confirmed her return for the sequel. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Trotter mentioned that she is uncertain about returning.

“While I can’t confirm my involvement, I am aware that the script is completed. Having Whoopi Goldberg on board is incredible; she’s a legend, an icon, and my mentor. Absolutely, I would say yes.”
Goldberg also provided a statement to Entertainment Weekly, expressing
“I can confirm that it’s on it’s way. It’s just around the corner. It’ll be arriving shortly. I’m thrilled because it’s time for some laughter. We may not know what lies ahead, but whatever it is, believe we all need a good laugh. Making others laugh brings me to joy too.” ✨
