On Tuesday (April 21), Victoria Monét appeared on a grainy, vintage-inspired single cover that emulates a ’70s aesthetic that she’s been serving us since the release of several teasers from her upcoming Jaguar EP featuring the steamy new single “Dive”. This track marks the third effort off of the forthcoming project, which is slated for release this spring, following “Moment”, a bold track exploring sexual infatuation, and the body-positive anthem “Ass Like That”.
Set over a jazzy instrumental consisting of winds, percussions, snares, and the iconic bed squeak Monét paints the perfect picture of romance, seduction, and emotional depth with her decadent vocals. She sings about opening up and getting deep with someone intoxicatingly new saying, “You’re saying everything I like / I could watch ya lips move all night / Makin’ me think you might / Have the type of brain I like / Promise I’ma make it rain for you / Somethin’ like an ocean wave on you / If you let me open up to you / Kiss below the line”.
By the second verse, her appetite for “long conversations” and opening up becomes a quite literal sexual fantasy as indicated by the rich cadence of harmonies in the background. Monet encourages her lover to “kiss below the line” and, ultimately, go deeper. “I wanna see you rock the boat, back and forth / Lick the beach, fuck the shore / Make me scream, all aboard,” she purr’s.
The last minute of the song crescendos into an explosive outro featuring lavish strings, classic horns, the sounds of rain drops, and faint moaning. “Dive” is absolutely a full-fledged sonic experience, as promised in the slogan on the singles cover art which reads, “A thrill you can taste.”
In a statement, the singer-songwriter opened up about the significance of releasing a song packed with divine femininity and sexual freedom.
“Women are an adventure. We are as powerful as oceans, as beneficial as H20, and as fun as any theme park,” she said. “Anyone lucky enough to taste that thrill should go all in. ‘Dive’ playfully invites one to do so. It emphasizes the importance of women getting our pleasure through oral sex. It’s not talked about enough from our perspective and I wanted to break the ice. They say most humans are about 60% water, but I believe women must be 69% so dive in, baby. ”
As per usual, Monét exudes confidence in her savvy and unapologetic lyricism, authentic expression, and fierce femininity…and we are so here for it!
