HBO Max’s Americanah has already enlisted Black Panther stars Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira but to make the deal sweeter, HBO Max has put Doctor Sleep star Zackary Momoh on the roster, according to Variety.
The series tells the story of Ifemelu (Nyong’o), a young, beautiful woman raised in Nigeria, who as a teenager falls in love with her classmate Obinze. Since they reside in a military-ruled country, the two split ways, with Ifemelu heading for America and Obinze setting sail for London. Once settling in, Ifemelu finds out what it means to be black. And while Obinze had hoped to join her, he cannot due to post-9/11 America to him. He comes to learn that the London lifestyle is quite dangerous.
Coming Soon states, “Americanah is an incredible exploration of the human experience that crosses three continents to give an empathetic, compelling view of the complex realities of race, politics, immigration and identity.”
