When it comes to successful Hollywood franchises, few if any are as successful as the Star Wars franchise. The brainchild of genius filmmaker George Lucas, Star Wars catapulted moviegoers into “a galaxy far, far away” and took them on an interstellar journey unlike anything ever seen before in Hollywood. Buzz Aldrin walking on the moon paled in comparison, and as a result the franchise has lived on well beyond its inception. Today we have a variety of Star Wars series and films with more constantly on the way to appease the franchise’s feverish fanbase, and we just got an update on one of the next projects to come. Disney just unveiled the official poster for their latest series Obi-Wan Kenobi, centered around one of the franchise’s most memorable characters and set to hit their Disney+ platform in the near future.
Originally debuting with its first film in 1977, it was virtually obvious that Star Wars was something special. While that’s certainly easy to say in hindsight, what strengthens the argument is that fanfare for the iconic franchise is stronger than ever. This is abundantly obvious by the number of Star Wars spin-off projects we have seen as of lately, the Disney+ series The Mandalorian being a prime example, and that number just keeps growing. Now Obi-Wan Kenobi is on the way, another Disney+ series from the perspective of the titular character who is a revered Jedi warrior who has been present since the very beginning of the franchise. The story is set to take place at an interesting time however, ten years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Kenobi lost a battle to his apprentice Anakin Skywalker. Disney has been taking an array of unique spins on the Star Wars franchise, and this series appears to be no different; see the new poster for Obi-Wan Kenobi below and the series on Disney+ May 25th.
The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi? Disney seemingly has something of a trilogy on their hands. It was obvious that Disney+ was going to be a goldmine for the media giant, but it has paid off in ways many certainly did not anticipate. The liberty to produce content more freely has certainly benefited their fans, and continues to do so as they are constantly producing new content.
