Since the very early days of Hollywood, few actors have managed to garner the level of success Adam Sandler has. From his earliest projects such as Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison to more recent endeavors such as the plethora of projects he has produced alongside Netflix, Sandler has been at the top of the film industry for nearly three decades now with few if any breaks along the way. Even after all these years the esteemed actor is continuing to create magic that a wide variety of moviegoers can enjoy and further cements his place in Hollywood history. Take, for example, 2019’s Uncut Gems, the gritty drama about a jeweler from New York in which Sandler delivered a masterful performance and forced critics to look at him in a new light. That was also the first time Sandler teamed up with the directorial duo better known as the Safdie Brothers, and now it looks like the duo is back for their next project as a new detail about the project emerged this week.
Since the premier of the critically acclaimed Uncut Gems, both Sandler and the Safdie Brothers have been busy in their own right. Earlier this year Sandler released another highly regarded project in Hustle, the latest project he has produced alongside Netflix which saw Sandler play an NBA scout attempting to cement his place in basketball history. Benny Safdie has also been hard at work starring in films instead of directing which he is best known for, earning roles in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. But now it looks like the trio is set to unite forces once again as the latest detail about their new project emerged this week, with it being reported that their next project will take a look at the world of trading cards. Whether that will be Pokémon or sports cards remains unclear, though the trio’s affinity for sports makes it more likely the latter, the trading card market has seen a massive resurgence over the past few years that it certainly makes the concept worthwhile enough to explore. When we may be able to expect that project remains unclear, however fans of their 2019 effort can rest a little easier knowing that the follow-up is in the works.
Sandler is arguably one of the most respected names in all of Hollywood while the Safdie Brothers have been climbing up the ranks for a few years now, making the team they’ve formed a match made in heaven. The proof of that is Uncut Gems, however it may not be long until there is another project we are putting in that conversation.
