Lionsgate is adding a new film of Leprechaun to its collection, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The last addition to the Leprechaun franchise, called Leprechaun Returns, debuted in 2018.
Mike Van Waes, who just added the finishing touches to the live-action Lilo & Stitch film, will be penning the upcoming movie’s script. Milk Teeth’s director, Felipe Vargas, is in charge of directing the untitled Leprechaun film. There are no details regarding the cast or plot. However, it’s been confirmed that Warwick Davis, who played The Leprechaun in six of the eight films, will not be reprising the role.
“Thirty years after its debut, this franchise still casts a spell, and we’re thrilled to be bringing it back with a new vision,” Erin Westerman, president of production for Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, said in a statement.
“Roy and Miri are two of our most trusted producers, especially with this genre, and we’re excited by Felipe’s vision for the film as a director. In his hands, this movie should be terrifying and fun.”
The first Leprechaun movie premiered in 1993. The storylines in all the films focus on a “mischievous leprechaun who would hunt down people that took his gold.”
