Mission: Impossible 8 star Shea Whigham recently revealed that his co-star Tom Cruise warned him that the upcoming movie will be a “sprint to finish” after wrapping up filming.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the production of Mission: Impossible 8 is proving to be a more extensive journey than initially anticipated. Cruise stated during a dinner conversation with Whigham that there are still significant steps to be taken to complete the highly anticipated sequel to Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning. Whigham had just completed his part in the film after hearing the news from Cruise.
“We did this scene between Tom and myself, and then Tom said, ‘We’re going to go out to dinner.’ So we went out to dinner when I was done, and then Tom said, ‘Do you realize that we come out one year from today? And it’s going to be a sprint to finish the f**king thing,'” Whigham told The Hollywood Reporter. “What he’s doing now, people are going to be floored. He wants to make this one like an adventure film, and he and McQuarrie have an idea of what they want to do with it. So it’s going to be amazing.”
In Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning, Shea Whigham plays Jasper Briggs. Briggs’ mission is to bring in Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise. Both actors reprise their respective roles in the upcoming Mission: Impossible film, which is scheduled to debut in theaters sometime in 2025.
Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning hit the big screen in July of 2023. The movie sees Ethan Hunt and the IMF team on the hunt for a new weapon that can be quite life-threatening if it falls into the wrong hands.
“With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, a deadly race around the globe begins,” the logline continues. “Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than the mission — not even the lives of those he cares about most.”
Following its release, Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning earned $567.5 million at the box office.
