The sequel to the 2006 movie The Devil Wears Prada is in the works. Disney has given the go-ahead for The Devil Wears Prada 2, with the original writer Aline Brosh McKenna and producer Wendy Finnerman returning. The plot will focus on Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, as she strives to revive her failing magazine business. Priestly seeks help from her former assistant, Emily Charlton, played by Emily Blunt, for advertising funds. While Streep and Blunt are confirmed to reprise their roles, the involvement of Anne Hathaway, who played Andy Sachs, remains a mystery.
During her appearance on The View in 2022, Hathaway shared her thoughts on the potential sequel. She acknowledged the allure of revisiting The Devil Wears Prada but pointed out the significant changes in the media landscape.
“I just think that movie was in a different era. Now, everything has gone so digital, and that movie centered around the concept of producing a physical thing is very different now,” Hathaway said.
“It is tempting to think about Andy and Emily needing to get Miranda her coffee, and she’s somewhere in Europe, and then along the way, they pick up Stanley Tucci in Italy, who’s at a restaurant. It’s tempting, but it’s not going to happen. They could relaunch it, get some new people, and do it.”
The Devil Wears Prada is based on Lauren Weisberger‘s novel of the same name. Twelve years after releasing her book, Weisberger published a sequel called Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, in which Hathaway’s character Andy goes on to be the editor for a bridal magazine and works on planning a wedding.
In the first movie, Andy graduates with a journalism degree and goes on to work at a high-end fashion magazine. During her time there, she discovers that her dream job isn’t what it seems after working under the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly.
