Anthony Mackie believes that Sam Wilson will evolve into a distinctly different superhero in the upcoming film Captain America: Brave New World, and he has recently elaborated on the character’s development.
During the Disney APAC Content Showcase held in Brazil, Mackie discussed the journey his character has taken throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He noted that as Wilson steps into the role of Captain America, he will carry forward many elements of his former self while also adapting to his new responsibilities.
Mackie highlighted that, lacking the super soldier serum, Sam Wilson will need to adopt a more strategic approach to confrontations and engage with foes in a more thoughtful manner. He explained, “Having the serum allows one to battle anyone without hesitation.” Without that enhancement, Wilson must rely on his intellect to devise innovative tactics for overcoming adversaries.
Mackie emphasized that as a counselor, Sam utilizes his mind rather than brute strength; he approaches challenges with cleverness rather than sheer force, emphasizing his role as a supportive friend to those around him.
In addition to Anthony Mackie, Captain America: Brave New World will feature Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, who takes on the heroic identity of Falcon. The film also stars Harrison Ford in the significant role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, a character who transforms into the powerful Red Hulk. This portrayal comes after the late William Hurt, who previously played the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, passed away in March 2022.

The impressive cast is further enhanced by Carl Lumbly, portraying Isaiah Bradley, alongside Giancarlo Esposito as Seth Voelker, also known as Sidewinder. Liv Tyler reprises her role as Betty Ross, and Tim Blake Nelson will appear as Samuel Sterns, recognized as the Leader.
