Ryan Gosling is reportedly set to star in the Shawn Levy-directed Star Wars film.
According to Coming Soon, the Barbie actor is in talks of playing a lead role in The Force Saga. Although there’s little to no details about the upcoming movie, it’s been reported that it’ll be a standalone project and won’t be tied to the “Skywalker Saga” like the previous nine films. With that being said, Gosling’s character might not come across other Skywalkers, which leaves the plot unknown.
Sources believe that if the actor inks a deal in the future, it’ll be with Disney. Production for the movie is set to kick off in the fall. Another Star Wars flick, The Mandalorian and Grogu, will hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
Despite the announcement of several other Star Wars films in recent years, the most recent one to premiere on the big screen is 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. The Star Wars film has been in the works since 2022, with Jonathan Tropper spending over a year writing the script. Levy, who has teamed up with Tropper on projects like This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project, is also collaborating on this one. Levy, a three-time Oscar nominee, directed the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, which starred Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
During the movie’s opening and subsequent weeks, it raked in impressive numbers and quickly became one of the highest-grossing R-rated films of all time. To date, Deadpool & Wolverine has earned over $900 million globally at the box office.
