Rihanna has released a new track for the Smurfs soundtrack called “Friend of Mine.” Set to debut on May 16, the singer’s new song talks about building a close bond with someone new. Over the mesmerizing Afrobeat production, she sings, “You’re looking like a friend of mine.” Not to mention, she stars in the movie as Smurfette alongside John Goodman, James Corden, Sandra Oh, Nick Offerman, and J.P. Karliak as the villain Gargamel.

Besides lending her voice and vocals, Rihanna also worked as an executive producer on the project. When she first announced her role at CinemaCon in 2023, she was expecting her second son, Riot Rose, and joked that working in her PJs during her third trimester might score her some cool points with her kids.
There’s also a new trailer that dropped recently too. In the new clip, Papa Smurf gets captured, the Smurfs head into the real world, which is a storyline the series has used many times, and a new group of tiny, cute creatures called the Snooterpoots is introduced.
This single marks her first new release since 2022’s “Lift Me Up” from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. The Smurfs movie will also feature more music from iconic musicians, including Tyla and the previously released track “Higher Love” by DJ Khaled, Cardi B, and DESI TRILL.
The single comes after Rihanna attended the Met Gala with her twin flame A$AP Rocky, revealing that baby number three is on the way. Despite the pregnancy, she confirmed that she’s still working on the long-awaited follow-up LP to her 2016 album Anti. When asked if the baby would delay new music, she laughed and said, “Noooooo! Maybe a couple of videos! I can still sing!”
