Madea’s worlds expand
Tyler Perry is once again revving up the Madea universe. Netflix has officially released the trailer for Joe’s College Road Trip, the newest installment in the beloved comedy franchise. This time placing the spotlight squarely on Madea’s loud, reckless, and unapologetically chaotic brother, Joe. The film is set to begin streaming globally on February 13th, 2026.
According to the official synopsis, Joe’s College Road Trip follows Joe as he embarks on a no-rules, no-filter journey across the country with his sheltered grandson, BJ. What starts as a misguided attempt at teaching life lessons quickly spirals into pure mayhem, packed with wrong turns, wild encounters, and the kind of outrageous antics fans have come to expect from Joe. It’s less a wholesome coming-of-age story and more a crash course in chaos.
The newly released trailer teases exactly that energy. Viewers are thrown headfirst into Joe’s unconventional version of mentorship, complete with high-speed chases involving armed men, bar brawls, and plenty of sharp-tongued humor. At its core, the film balances slapstick comedy with generational tension, as Joe attempts however, recklessly to prepare BJ for independence after a lifetime of being sheltered.
The ensemble cast includes Tyler Perry pulling double duty as both Madea and Joe, alongside Jermaine Harris as BJ Simmons, Amber Reign as Destiny, Bethany Anne Lind as Vikki, Patricia Williams as Pearl, Jeremy Gimenez as Garrett, Millie Jackson as Geraldine, Deetta West as Kathryn, Wil Deusner as Stewart, and Ben Swiley as Herbert. Together, the cast brings fresh energy while maintaining the familiar rhythm that has defined the franchise for over two decades.
Written and directed by Perry himself, Joe’s College Road Trip continues his expansive creative partnership with Netflix, under which he writes, directs, and produces a wide range of films, scripted series, and faith-based features. The film is produced by Perry and Angi Bones, with Dara Taylor providing the musical score. Further reinforcing Perry’s hands-on approach to his projects.
Inspired by Perry’s mother and aunt, Madea first burst onto the stage in the 1999 play I Can Do Bad All by Myself before becoming a cultural phenomenon. The character made her big-screen debut in 2005’s Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Perry’s first feature film, and has since appeared in more than ten movies. Over the years, Madea and now Joe have evolved from theatrical roots into a multigenerational franchise that continues to resonate with audiences.
With Joe’s College Road Trip, Tyler Perry proves once again that there’s still plenty of gas left in the tank. And this Valentine’s Day weekend, Netflix viewers can buckle up for a wild ride that blends heart, humor, and classic Madea-world madness. Joe’s College Road Trip begins streaming February 13th, 2026, exclusively on Netflix.
