“If the storm doesn’t kill you, the sharks will.”
That’s the scary idea behind Thrash, a new disaster movie now streaming on Netflix.
The film is directed by Tommy Wirkola and shows what happens when a powerful hurricane hits a small coastal town in South Carolina. But the storm is just the beginning. Soon, dangerous bull sharks are swimming through the flooded streets, turning the town into a nightmare.
Producer Adam McKay said the idea once felt unrealistic, but things have changed. He explained that climate change has made events like this feel more possible. In real life, places like Australia have had major floods where sharks entered areas they normally wouldn’t, leading to attacks.
Even though Thrash is fiction, it is inspired by real-world concerns.
The story follows a group of people trying to survive after a huge hurricane floods their town. As the water rises, sharks move in, and the survivors must fight to stay alive.
The movie stars Phoebe Dynevor as a pregnant woman trapped in her car during the storm. Whitney Peak plays a young woman who stays behind and gets caught in the disaster. Djimon Hounsou plays a marine researcher trying to reach his niece.
Other characters include a foster father and his kids trapped in a flooding house, along with a news reporter covering the storm as everything gets worse.
