It looks like Ready Player Two is finally moving forward. Fans have been waiting for years to see if the sequel would become a movie, and now there’s some good news.
Screenwriter Zak Penn confirmed that work has started on the project, saying, “I am working on it.”
Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One was released in March 2018. The movie was filled with references to video games, movies, and comic books, and it became a huge hit. It made more than $607 million worldwide on a $175 million budget, making a sequel seem very likely.
Even with that success, there haven’t been many updates over the years. That’s why Penn’s latest comment is exciting for fans. It’s the first major update in almost two years.
Steven Spielberg has also said that if Ready Player Two gets made, he would rather produce the movie than direct it. Spielberg and Zak Penn are still attached to adapt Ernest Cline’s sequel novel, but no cast or director has been announced yet.
The story follows Wade Watts, who finds a new secret hidden in Halliday’s vaults. The discovery could change the OASIS all over again, but it also brings a dangerous new enemy.
The book’s official synopsis says:
