The Avatar franchise has made quite the impact in cinema. With a worldwide box-office gross of over $2.029 billion, it the highest grossing film of all time. Over a decade later, fans continue to rave over James Cameron wondrous world of Pandora. We are finally being graced with the first of the sequel, Avatar 2.
Little is known about the film. However, we can expect the amazing CGI we saw in Avatar with amazing technological advancements. The concept art Cameron revealed for the sequel shows the Metkayina village. The treehouse sits peacefully over a beautiful body of water. The hues of blue, green, and lavender help convey the serenity of the indigenous race on pandora. We are exposed to another way they are connected to the world around them without the assistance of heavy machinery.
It’s clear Cameron is going to continue raising the bar in upcoming sequels. Producer Jon Landau gave us a glimpse of whats to come with this image from his personal Instagram account. The Metkayina live completely different lifestyles than the Na’vi tribe we were introduced to in 2009; the Metkayina are free divers, while the Na’vi tribe lives primarily on solid ground.
We can expect a return from previous characters Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and Jake Sully (Sam Worthington). Additional actors from Avatar as well a few new faces such as Kate Winslet, Sigourney, Stephen Lang, with Vin Diesel making a cameo. Avatar 2 is expected to premiere December 16, 2022.
