In an era where remakes and reboots are more popular than ever before, it is of virtually no surprise when any of Hollywood’s countless classics chosen to be revamped. Whether it be an iconic Disney film or one of the timeless horror franchises of the 1980’s, production companies have been digging deep in their catalogues to draw inspiration for new projects in 2021. Some of these projects even extend well beyond their predecessors roots, helping them adapt to the modern era and draw in new audiences. A prime example of that is Adult Swim’s latest project which is set to be an animated Blade Runner series, and this week they released the first official trailer to Blade Runner: Black Lotus.
Originally debuted in 1982 with the original film Blade Runner, the sci-fi film directed by none other than Ridley Scott follows an LAPD officer who is tasked with hunting down genetically engineered humanoids that have infected the Earth in the year 2019. More recently, the franchise was rebooted in 2017 with the release of Blade Runner 2049 which served as a sequel to the 1982 original and follows a similar plotline. Now it appears the Blade Runner universe will be expanding with the release of the new animated series Blade Runner: Black Lotus in the coming weeks. This week Adult Swim unveiled the trailer for the new series and it showcases the new series quite well for potential viewers, showcasing a futuristic version of Los Angeles and introducing a story that is certainly true to the franchise’s plot. We will just have to wait and see when Blade Runner: Black Lotus debuts on Adult Swim November 13th.
The first Blade Runner film will be celebrating its fortieth anniversary next year, seemingly making this the perfect time to undertake such a project. It is additionally of no surprise that Adult Swim will be hosting it on their network, notorious for being on the forefront of adult animation. Now they get the opportunity to potential welcome new fans to their network with the release of Blade Runner: Black Lotus, set to premiere in a few short weeks.
