While streaming giants like Netflix and Hulu dominate the majority of the marketplace, there are a variety of players in the digital streaming industry that each hold a unique draw to them, whether it be special programming, unique features or whatever else they may offer. Amongst these is Amazon Prime and the video service they offer featuring acclaimed original series such as The Boys and Homecoming, both of which receiving rave reviews. Recently a new Amazon Prime original series was announced titled Solos, an ambiguous anthology series that has left many curious about what the premise could be. Now the streaming service is providing viewers with more details: a star studded cast is set for the first season of the upcoming project and its premise is intriguing to say the least.
For those unfamiliar with the term, an anthology series is one which boasts a rotating cast and storyline as opposed to one fixed narrative for its duration. Amazon’s series Solos will do so by enlisting the help of a new A-list celebrity in each episode to tell a story that highlights the human experience. The first season’s cast will feature impressive names such as Morgan Freeman, Anne Hathaway, Anthony Mackie and several other very well respected names that are sure to provide uniquely interesting perspectives in their respective episodes. The upcoming series was created by frequent Amazon collaborator David Weil and was directed by a group of three that included Sam Taylor-Johnson, Zach Braff and Tiffany Johnson and will premiere next month.
The project is certainly interesting, with a diverse cast that is certain to bring an equally diverse range of perspectives when it comes to the human experience. The project is seemingly in the right hands however as it’s creator, David Weil, is also the mastermind behind another hit Amazon Prime original series, Hunters. Interested parties will not have to wait long for Solo’s release either as it is currently slated for May 21st, just a few short weeks away. Until then, we will have to patiently wait and see what Amazon has in store.
