Ari Lennox is giving us all life as she and her girl squad get all dolled up in the music video for her new song “BUSSIT.” Set in a glamorous salon, Ari serves 90’s R&B diva realness on the track. They’re dressed in the mesmerizing colors of pink, blue, green and purple with matching feather boas and fans. As they enjoy one of our most treasured rituals as women — getting pampered — the “Bussit” video is reminiscent of what we idolized as little girls visiting the salon or “doobie shop” with our mothers, eagerly waiting for the day where we could go and participate with our own crew.
The music video is vibrant and full of girls having uninterrupted fun, mimosas, regal floral arrangements, makeup and some seriously sensual choreography; literally a girls dream. Ari’s smooth vocals, and neo-soul vibe make the track instantly addictive and she gracefully sings “Have off my clothes when you arrive/ You could seduce me with your eyes/ Don’t want the smoke don’t waste my time/ I be open for you…” in the opening verse.
Lennox, who made us fall in-love with her impressive songwriting, charisma, and angelic vocals way back in her “Backseat” days has truly set the tone for 2020. Last month, she shared the Shea Butter Baby Remix EP that features a new version of “BMO” with Doja Cat and new versions of “I Been” with Smino and “Facetime” with singer Durand Bernarr. Lennox also revealed to Ebro Darden and Zane Lowe of Apple Music that she’s been in the studio working on new tunes since the beginning of the global coronavirus pandemic. “With everything that’s happening, we want to put music out,” she said. “I don’t know, I want to give a little happiness to the world.”
