Bad Bunny joins Adam Sandler’s upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel. The first film hit theaters in 1996 and followed an aspiring hockey player who discovers his skills in a game of golf and becomes notorious after going on tour. Kyle Newacheck, who directed Sandler’s Netflix comedy Murder Mystery, is helming the film.
During his August appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Sandler hinted that Kansas City Chiefs football player Travis Kelce might have a role in his upcoming film. There are currently no details about the plot.
“Travis mentioned it, so we have something nice for Travis,” Sandler said. “He’s gonna come by. He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life.”
Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald will reprise their respective roles as Virginia Venit, Sandler’s onscreen love interest, and Shooter McGavin, a jealous golf pro and the film’s villain. Sandler and Tim Herlihy will pen the screenplay for Happy Gilmore 2 and will produce it alongside Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simonds. Dennis Dugan, who directed the original Happy Gilmore, will executive produce the movie with Judit Maull, Kevin Grady, David Bausch and Barry Bernardi.
Aside from being a Latin trap sensation, Bad Bunny has put on his acting hat in Sony’s action-packed comedy Bullet Train and in the Amazon drama Cassandro. In the future, he’ll star in Sony Pictures’ crime thriller Caught Stealing.
Happy Gilmore 2 has yet to set a release date and is in the early stages of development.
