Since the very dawn of Hollywood, the scope of the entertainment industry has expanded tremendously. Advancements in technology have been the primary driver in this shift and have allowed the creative minds at its helm to take significantly greater creative liberties over time that have completely reshaped television and film as we know them substantially. One particular genre that has benefitted exceptionally during this time is that of biographical works which have seen substantial growth in recent years as they have become increasingly realistic over time and the stories embedded in them have become increasingly easier to tell as a result. The latest example of this comes in the form of a Bob Marley biopic starring Kingsley Ben-Adir that has been in production for the past few months, and now that project has an official release date for the eager fans who have been patiently anticipating it since the initial announcement a few weeks back.
Being produced by Paramount Pictures, the Marley biopic is said to be set in 1976 around the time the esteemed artist was producing his critically acclaimed 1977 album Exodus. This was considered to be a substantial time in Marley’s life given the assanination attempt on his life that took place during this time as well as his exile from Jamaica, which saw him take refuge in England for the remainder of his life. Paramount had already announced that King Richard director Reinaldo Marcus Green would be at the film’s helm as director, working alongside Marley’s son Ziggy Marley to ensure the projects authenticity, with Peaky Blinders star Kingsley Ben-Adir set to star as the iconic reggae musician, though they have been hard-pressed to keep further details about the project under wraps as production commences. Well now fans can begin counting down the days as we have received an official release date for the untitled project with Paramount confirming that the Bob Marley biopic is scheduled to hit theaters in a few short years when it debuts on January 12th, 2024. More details are certain to emerge before then and eager fans can continue to check back for further updates about the budding project in the coming months as production begins to pick up.
The Marley biopic joins a long line of others just like it that have released in recent years, chiefly among them the 2018 Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. That project received rave reviews and saw Rami Malek win the 91st Academy Award for Best Actor for his depiction of Mercury. Now Ben-Adir will be looking to follow in his footsteps, and hopefully bring an equal amount of acclaim to Marley’s life story in the Paramount Pictures project which is set to begin filming this year. Eager fans of the iconic reggae musician now know when they can expect that project and can remain on the lookout for further updates about Paramount’s untitled Bob Marley biopic as they become available over the next few months
