A week ago we saw an inspirational short released by Spike Lee titled Da 5 Bloods. This time the filmmaker takes his 1989 film Do The Right Thing to show the repeating of history with arrest of two men on different occasions both ending in deaths and the same cry “I can’t breathe”. The short was released on CNN during Bruce Lee’s appearance. Titled “3 Brothers” the film shows the parallels between Radio Raheem ( the character of Lee’s 1989 film), Eric Garner and George Floyd.
“Will History Stop Repeating Itself?”
Footage clips of all 3 arrest are cut together showing Garners arrest in 2017, Floyd’s arrest in 2020 both resulting in deaths with scenes from Do The Right Thing where Radio Raheem also dies after being choked by police officers.

“Will History Stop Repeating Itself?” This is a real question?
In 2014 Eric Garner was choked to death after being arrested in Staten Island, New York. Officer Daniel Pantaleo, was not charged. 2020 George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis by an Officer, Derek Chauvin also went uncharged along with the other 4 officers who witnessed the malpractice until protest demanded. All the cases in between 2014 and 2020 is what has led to the grieving of the country we are experiencing now.
In the interview CNN filmmaker Spike Lee asked and reasoned: “How can people not understand why people are acting the way they are? … This is not new, we saw with the riots in the 60s, the assassination of Dr King, every time something jumps off and we don’t get our justice, people are reacting they way they do to be heard … We are seeing this again and again and again … This is the thing: the killing of black bodies, that is what this country is built upon.”
In the interview Lee also educates on the Graphic tee he wears that reads “1619” – the date of the first arrival of indentured African slaves in Jamestown, Va.
