Attention all hot girls! Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion are arriving to salvage our hot girl summer. On Sunday night, Cardi teased new music saying, “I’ve got an announcement to make tomorrow,” in a mysterious (yet compelling) Instagram video.
The very next day, Queen Bardi did not disappoint: declaring that she and Megan Thee Stallion would be releasing their first collaboration, a record called “WAP,” this Friday (August 7). “Single droppin this Friday! WAP feat. @theestallion #Wap,” she wrote alongside a photo of the duo, sporting sky-high intertwined updos, matching iced out WAP hoops, and extended tongues (truly iconic).
Cardi has steadily released collaborations with major artists like Bruno Mars, Post Malone, French Montana, Fat Joe, and more since the release of her debut album Invasion of Privacy which garnered a plethora of awards. She has also starred in Netflix’s hip-hop series Rhythm + Flow alongside Chance the Rapper and T.I. She also appeared on James Corden’s “Late Late Show” segment “Carpool Karaoke,” where the television host attempted to teach her how to drive.
Moreover, rising superstar Megan Thee Stallion has equally been on a consistent path of ascension. “WAP” will officially be Megan’s second high-profile collaboration of 2020. In late April, she released the remix of “Savage” featuring Beyoncé, which became the rapper’s first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Also, the debut of “WAP” will fall nearly a year to the day after Megan dropped her official “Hot Girl Summer” anthem with the Queen of Rap Nicki Minaj.
Come Friday, Cardi B and Thee Hot Girl Meg are poised to have the hit song of the season, and we haven’t even heard a snippet! Both rappers revealed the news and unveiled the official cover art across social media, which has since gained millions of likes, and fans are living for this life altering collaboration. The photo alone is enough to make you want to get dressed for a night out while tongue popping and dancing in front of a mirror. I can already feel the bad gal energy oozing off of this new single.
Stay tuned for the release of “WAP.”
