First she captured the hearts, minds and souls of the masses as a fan favorite on “The Voice” in Spain, and now Los Angeles-based Venezuelan sensation Carmen DeLeon has returned with her worldwide debut single, “Volverás,” via her new merge with Capitol Music Group and Universal Music Latin Entertainment.
Featuring production by Tainy, the Puerto Rican musical savant who’s credited for some of the biggest hits in reggaetón and trap, “Volverás” (You’ll Be Back) fully depicts Carmen’s range, and sweet tone against the backdrop of a melancholic guitar and classic reggaetón loops.
“Volverás,” is absolutely contagious and filled with an empowering message of knowing your worth, self-love, and ultimately forgiveness. The 19-year-old songstress delivers her melody from the heart as she explores themes and experiences we’re all too familiar with, while making it authentically true to herself and her personal journey.
We had the pleasure of sitting down with Carmen in a recent interview where she gave us further insight into the making of this hit single, and humbly invited us into her world. Brimming with high energy, draped in a baseball cap, natural face, flowy crop top and sweatpants, DeLeon reeled us in with her down-to-earth nature that simply serves to highlight her star-power.
“Volverás is a song about the people who wrong you, in any type of relationship, and how their own arrogance can keep them from seeing how they hurt you. The words describe the moment when you realize that those people don’t deserve you, and you make the decision to let them go. I want people to know you create the life that you want and you can choose who’s a part of it! It’s important to love and value yourself,” she shared.
And, while many of us naturally assume that this record is about a romantic kind of love and loss, she clarifies that it can also apply to friendships. “Friends can also break your heart,” she states, “…thats where I drew inspiration for this song. I was friendshipbroken.”
“Que cayera en tu propia trampa. Que bebiera’ de tu propio vino. Y no es que yo buscara venganza, ese e’ el destino. (You will fall in your own trap, and have a taste of your own medicine. And, I am not seeking vengeance, that is destiny),” she croons. Although DeLeon does not believe in karma, she believes that what goes around comes around, and it is up to us to craft our own results.
Having signed with musical giants Capitol Records and Universal Music Latin Entertainment just last year, Carmen DeLeon is positioned to truly shake up the Latin music scene as we know it. She even shared that her upcoming album will be filled with raw, soul-chilling vocals, and we are eager to see her bloom into the powerhouse that she is.
While we wait for more vibes from the rising Latin superstar, watch the official music video for “Volverás,” below.
