Cecily Strong has decided to part ways with SNL after being with them for 11 seasons. Strong is considerably the longest-tenured female cast member in the show’s history.
She announced while playing her signature character Cathy Anne during their “Weekend Update” segment.
“I think it’s going to give me some much-needed stability,” Strong said jokingly. “I got friends on the inside. They seem to be doing OK.”
The cast announced her leaving during a Radio Station-esque sketch as well.
Kenan Thompson said
“Honestly, I don’t think Radio Shack could have survived this long without Cecily. Every time she came to work, she had a new character, a new accent, or a new impression that would blow you away. She’d have a power and a joy to her performance that made you remember why you loved working at Radio Shack in the first place.”
Strong first appeared on Saturday Night Live in the show’s 38th season. She worked alongside Seth Meyers and Colin Jost on the Weekend Update. By the 40th season, Strong was replaced by Michael Che on the segment. Outside of SNL, she stars and co-produces in Schmigadoon for Apple TV+.
