Reggaeton icon Daddy Yankee and rising Panamanian rapper Sech recently collaborated on a slow jam fit for warm weather, palm trees, and sunny days with their new single, “Definitivamente,” or, “Definitely.”
Set to the tune of a somber piano line, “Definitivamente” is the ultimate crossover of Reggaeton and the Blues, featuring production by hitmakers NeKxum and Ovy on the Drums, and mixed by Luny (of Luny Tunes fame). Together, Yankee and Sech join forces to belt out a perfect ode to their exes.
“Let’s read the last chapter and come to the end,” Yankee sings. “Lo que pasó, pasó,” adds Sech — “What happened, happened” — and if you catch this reference, congratulations you have sensational music taste! The famous line comes from Yankee’s classic 2004 album, Barrio Fino. The song speaks for all the men who want to break up with their girlfriend because they’ve noticed at the end the relationship that it’s most definitely not worth the drama (this could potentially be the next hot-boy anthem).
This bop-worthy collaboration arrived just in time for the young Panamanian star. Last year “Otro Trago,” his urbano fusion hit with Darell, sat for months at the top of the Latin charts and went Diamond in the United States. His full-length LP, Sueños, was then nominated for Best Urban Album at the 2019 Latin Grammys. Now, Sech is topping the charts again as “Definitivamente,” hits No.1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart.
“I dreamed about recording with him (Daddy Yankee), and I thank God for the opportunity,” said Sech in a recent statement.
