Academy Award nominee Daniel Kaluuya will be playing the Chairman of the Black Panther Party; the Chicago-born captivating activist Fred Hampton. Kaluuya’s co-star from Get Out, LaKeith Stanfield, known for his roles in Atlanta with Donald Glover and Uncut Gems with Adam Sandler, plays the role of William O’Neal; the FBI informant who was threatened with jail time if he did not cooperate with the federal agency and infiltrate the Black Panther Party. Check out the trailer below.
Director and co-writer Shaka King stated, “We started making it prior to the George Floyd killing and the rebellions that followed.” Filming began in last September, prior to the social, racial, and political turmoil that garnered worldwide attention over this summer. However, many people want this movie to come out now more than ever.
The movie is scheduled to release in 2021. From the trailer, it looks as if the movie will focus on the rise and fall of Fred Hampton and how William O’Neal contributed to Hampton’s downfall. It also looks like it will only be released in theaters, unlike many other movies that are now turning to streaming platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic.
