The Halloween season is upon us, and everybody already seems to be getting in the spirit of the holiday. The lone day of the year where it’s socially acceptable to embrace the dark and ominous, many relish the holiday for this very reason while others see it as another opportunity for a fun weekend. But since COVID disrupted most Halloween festivities last year, everybody seems to be more eager than ever to celebrate this October 31st. Hollywood has already begun previewing an array of Halloween-themed content to prepare for the holiday, but one project that’s still in the early stages of production may top them all: Disney’s Haunted Mansion reboot is still getting its feet off the ground, but have made some great additions to its cast in Owen Wilson and Rosario Dawson.
While many still have fond memories of the original Haunted Mansion film released in 2003 starring Eddie Murphy, Disney has been hard at work to make sure the reboot lives up to its predecessor. This week it was announced that Owen Wilson, best known for his role in the film Wedding Crashers, and Rosario Dawson, who has appeared in an array of films from Men In Black II to Zookeeper, were added to the upcoming projects cast. They join an already stacked lineup that includes the likes of LaKeith Stanfield and Tiffany Haddish, and is set to be directed by Justin Simien with the script being written by Katie Dippold. Further details about the project are being kept under wraps, however that group sounds intriguing to say the least already so it should be interesting to see what they come up with.
While it’s never easy to follow up what some would consider a classic, it looks like Disney is at least putting forth the necessary effort. The 2003 original film was also cast with a family at the center, which doesn’t fit with this cast and could mean they at least plan to shake up the plot a bit. Nonetheless, it should certainly be interesting to see what direction the media giant opts to take it. Disney fans and moviegoers can stay tuned for further updates about the Haunted Mansion reboot.
