Politics are a very touchy subject in the United States at the moment driven by a huge division amongst the two primary political parties. This has only been further emphasized by the recent tenure of former President Donald Trump, whose extreme ideology seemingly only further widened this divide. Culminating in a riot at the United States Capitol this past January, most would probably be quick to say that this is one of the most tumultuous times in the country’s political history. Scandal and disarray are nothing new in American politics however, especially in the Oval Office. Yesterday, FX unveiled the trailer for a new series that is going to attempt to capture that entropy in Impeachment: American Crime Story.
With 46 men serving as President of the United States thus far in the country’s history, a lot has happened over the course of several centuries. In recent decades however, that history has become a little more tainted as the result of a few high-profile scandals. Arguably the biggest of them occurred in the 1990’s when President Bill Clinton was impeached for, among other things, his involvement in a high profile sex scandal. That scandal will now be explored through the perspective of Monica Lewinsky, the woman involved with Clinton set to be played by Beanie Feldstein, in the new limited series Impeachment: American Crime Story. The series will be overseen by esteemed television writer Ryan Murphy and will premiere on FX September 7th.
Despite the modest trailer, its tone and the underlying story are much more serious than it may seem. Clinton was only the second President to ever be impeached in U.S. history at the time, and the first in over a century. The trial and ensuing media frenzy had the entire country captivated as they awaited his fate, and now FX and Murphy will attempt to captivate the country once more when Impeachment: American Crime Story debuts next month.
