J Balvin has already made history by breaking the Guinness World Record as the most nominated artist in a single year at the Latin Grammy Awards. The record was previously held by Calle 13 who racked up 10 nominations at the 12th Annual Latin Grammy Awards in 2011.
Balvin leads tonight’s 21st annual Latin Grammy’s with 13 nominations including 2 nominations in record of the year, “Rojo” and “China” with Anuel AA, and 2 nods in album of the year with Colores and Oasis with Bad Bunny. This marks Balvin’s seventh consecutive year being nominated for a Latin Grammy award.
The Colombian-born artist will also be performing at this year’s awards after not attending the live show last year due to the underrepresentation of reggaeton artists in the top categories. After facing backlash from artists and fans for excluding trap artists at last year’s awards, the Latin Grammys have added new categories like best reggaeton performance and best rap/hip-hop song, both of which Balvin is nominated in.
Tune into J Balvin’s performance at the 21st Annual Latin Grammy Awards airing tonight at 8PM E.S.T.
