James Gunn, director of Superman, and his dog Ozu will make a special appearance at this year’s Puppy Bowl XXI on Sunday, February 9, at 2 p.m. EST / 11 a.m. PST. Gunn and his four-legged friend will present the Krypto Super Play Award to one lucky puppy during the event, which will feature 142 rescue puppies from 80 shelters across 40 states and two countries. Gunn promoted the Puppy Bowl on Instagram by sharing a trailer in which he reveals that Ozu inspired him to reimagine Superman’s dog, Krypto the Superdog. Gunn also shared that Ozu is a rescue dog, and he has no regrets about adopting him, as he brings so much joy to his life. He then spoke about the importance of the Puppy Bowl, saying, “We’re excited to celebrate all the amazing dogs out there waiting for their forever homes.”

Superman tells the story of the superhero’s journey to balance his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas. He embodies truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that often sees kindness as old-fashioned.
