Since the very beginning of Hollywood, very few, if any, franchises have managed to match the success of the Fast & Furious franchise. Rooted in late 90’s and early 2000’s tuner car culture, the franchise tapped into a budding yet rapidly expanding subset of American culture that is now bigger than ever which helped propel it to success. While the franchise has evolved in recent years to be more action based, Vin Diesel and company are doing better than ever with the release of F9 last summer reminding audiences what makes the Fast & Furious franchise so special once more. They aren’t done quite yet however, with rumors already beginning to swirl about the upcoming tenth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise and an interesting new face set to join the production as the franchise’s villain.
With the release of the first film in 2001, The Fast & The Furious introduced moviegoers to the world of tuner cars in which individuals modifying their vehicles to perform at the highest levels would race for both money and respect. In the two decades since then the franchise has transformed dramatically, with one of the film’s original stars Paul Walker passing away in a high-speed car crash back in 2013. Instead of allowing this loss to hamper their spirits however, the cast and crew of the Fast & Furious franchise held their heads high and have continued to keep the franchise alive and well, in part, in his honor. Now we have a new update regarding the upcoming tenth installment of the franchise in the form of its latest casting: rumor has it that Jason Momoa is set to play the latest villain that will go head to head with the Fast crew. Best known for his role in the Aquaman franchise as well as appearing in the 2021 remake of Dune, the details of Momoa’s potential role remain unclear at this time as the plot of the film remains up in the air but eager fans can remain on the lookout for further updates regarding the next chapter of the Fast & Furious franchise in the coming months.
With Dwayne Johnson confirming that he would not be returning to the franchise in an interview this past December, the Fast & Furious team were left with a big void to fill. Adding Momoa should certainly help, especially if they intend to have him go up against Diesel’s character Dominic Toretto in a true clash of giants. We will just have to wait and see, with further details about the tenth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise set to emerge in the near future.
