Jennifer Lopez and Maluma portray doomed lovers in their new thematically connected music videos for “Pa’ Ti” and “Lonely.”
The short opens with “Pa’ Ti.” In the visual, Lopez is a billionaire who’s living the lavish life, while Maluma serves as her bodyguard, as they sing in Spanish over a sensual Reggaeton rhythm. Lopez lounges around her luxurious mansion, while Maluma is at her beck and call. As the plot thickens, it is revealed that the pair are also lovers and that Lopez is under investigation for shady business dealings. Despite Maluma’s seemingly caring, protective eye over her at work, and later as they share intimate moments, he’s setting her up the entire time.
“Pa’ Ti” then seamlessly transitions into “Lonely.” The couple is captured in bed as the FBI raids Lopez’s mansion and take her into custody. She then discovers her bodyguard beau is also an undercover FBI agent.
“You’re saying that you’re feeling lonely/But you fucked up, baby. I’m sorry,” she sings on the now uptempo’d ballad. “I’m doing so much better without you/Just kill your ego, before it kills you.” Later they duet, “I wanna love you, you already know.”
The video then concludes with the two going back and forth over the track in a classic 90’s style, where it becomes very clear that Maluma was sorry for what he did and wanted to try to salvage their love, but J’Lo fabulously walks away singing, “Too bad/ Once again…Don’t come over here with that shit.”
The pair truly share a sensational chemistry both in the visual and on the record. If you’re anything like me, and simply can’t get enough of them, then you’re in luck. Both JLo and Maluma star in Universal Picture’s Marry Me, which is set to hit theaters February 12, 2021. The two singles will also be be featured on the film’s soundtrack.
