Kevin Williamson has revealed that he’s started filming Scream 7.
According to Deadline, the director posted on Instagram that he’s begun working on the film and praised the cast and crew.
“I’m not supposed to post about Scream and I hope @spyglassmediagr and @paramountpics will forgive me but when you have one of the best days of your life it’s really hard to keep it to yourself,” Williamson wrote as the caption on Instagram. “What an extraordinary day I had working with an amazing and talented cast and crew. They brought their ‘A’ game and had my back every step of the way.”
He went on to express how thankful he was for Wes Craven, a notable director who’s worked on horror movies like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream, and The Hills Have Eyes, to name a few.
“I’m so very grateful for this opportunity and to Wes Craven who was on my mind through it all. The profound impact he has had on my life and career is endless. What a day! I can’t wait for tomorrow! #scream7.”
Scream 7 will explore Sidney Prescott’s life, similar to Jamie Lee Curtis’ character in the 2018 Halloween film. James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein serve as producers of the classic movie. Radio Silence, on the other hand, takes on the executive producer role. The script is written by Guy Busick.
Courteney Cox is set to reprise her role as Gale Weathers. Meanwhile, Neve Campbell will re-portray Sidney Prescott and Mason Gooding will reenact his character Chad Meek Martin. The horror film also carries new cast members like Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, and more.
The Scream franchise is a long-running horror sequence that began with four films: Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000), and Scream 4 (2011).
The series was revamped with the fifth installment, Scream (2022). The most recent film, Scream VI, was released worldwide in March 2023 and has set a new franchise record for the highest domestic box office gross, surpassing the original Scream with over $108 million. It has earned more than $169 million globally. Overall, the Scream series has grossed over $900 million at the worldwide box office.
