Mariah Carey and Busta Rhymes have come together to release a documentary to celebrate the 18th anniversary of their smash hit “I Know What You Want.” The documentary is titled DIVINE: The 18 Year Anniversary Celebration and can be found on YouTube.
The plot focuses on the creation of the 2003 record. We also witness interviews with film director Chris Robinson, actor Michael Kai White, and rappers Spliff Star, Rah Digga, Rampage, Baby Sham, and Trippie Redd. Likewise, DIVINE: The 18 Year Anniversary Celebration explores the influence of the track on R&B and hip-hop history.
Rhymes explained, “We took [the song] up another notch without compromising what the legacy of the original was. That’s important to me — don’t touch the classic if you can’t make it just as dope, if not better.”
Rhymes also digs deeper into the track’s legacy and how it ignited his verse in Trippie Redd’s “I Got You.” The third part can be found in his song, “Where I Belong.”
“I Know What You Want” ranked #17 on the Hot 100 2003 year-end chart and has amassed over 500 million streams to date.
