Francis Ford Coppola, the director and filmmaker of The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, is invested in making this a classic, and the movie’s trailer shows that. Led by actor Adam Driver, the Megalopolis trailer sees his character on top of a tall glass-esque New York building as he contemplates jumping off the cliff.
“Megalopolis is a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare,” the synopsis states.
It continues: “Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero, the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.”
As there is a demand for change, this dilemma will stir up a lot of issues for an intelligent artist who is looking to find their true purpose. Additionally, the mayor of the city is enforcing greed and establishing the importance of the status quo. In turn, these scenarios should be intriguing as we see the perception between good and bad.
Francis Ford Coppola started writing the Megalopolis screenplay in 1980, a firing time of a prestigious era via mob and crime films. Capola believed in the movie so much that he personally invested $120 million.
Megalopolis stars Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D.B. Sweeney, and Dustin Hoffman.
