Now the latest franchise we’ve received an update about is the classic comedy franchise Austin Powers, with franchise star Mike Myers touching upon the potential of a fourth installment in the near future.
The first Austin Powers film Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery debuted in theaters in 1997 and featured Myers as an international British spy which aimed to parody the iconic James Bond franchise. The film raked in nearly $70 million at box offices around the globe but that doesn’t begin to highlight the film’s impact on popular culture. We wouldn’t even be talking about the potential of another Austin Powers film if it didn’t truly resonate with audiences, and it was this week in an interview that Mike Myers was asked about the potential of a fourth installment in the Austin Powers franchise. When asked, Myers said “I can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of such a project should it exist or or not exist.” Incredibly cryptic but funny in classic Mike Myers fashion, the vagueness of his response should give fans a glimmer of hope as this project has reportedly been looming around since 2005, but only time can really tell if we ever get a fourth chapter in the classic Austin Powers franchise.
The Austin Powers franchise is just one of many that Mike Myers has played a role in over the past few decades with 58 acting credits to his name per his IMDb page, but it is arguably his most iconic role. The international spy last appeared in theaters exactly two decades ago as of this year, and the fact we are even talking about the potential of another installment should speak volumes to its impact upon pop culture. Whether we get that installment or not is the big question, and fans will just have to remain patient and positive in their hopes of Austin Powers 4.
