The poster for Moana 2 previews Disney’s animated sequel to the 2016 film Moana. Given the illustration, the main character, Moana, seems to have grown up. She’s seen in the distance blowing into a seashell on the beach. The main focus, however, lies on Maui’s fish hook, which is at the center of the poster.
Moana 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on November 27.
Prior to the poster reveal, Disney tantalized fans with a mini trailer for the upcoming film. This sneak peek features Moana at the beach, holding a seashell, hinting at the adventures to come.
“Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise,” Walt Disney Company Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger said in a statement. “And we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when Moana 2 comes to theaters this November.”
The official logline reads: “Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical Moana 2 takes audiences on an expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui, and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers.”
In Moana 2, Moana travels into the dangerous, long-lost waters of Oceania after receiving an abrupt call from her ancestors.
Moana stars Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson, who will reprise their roles as Moana and Maui in the second installment. The first film, directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, amassed over $600 million at the box office and earned two Oscar nominations, including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.
