Netflix has announced through a new trailer on their YouTube channel that an animated series will be created for Mojang Studios’ popular video game Minecraft. According to Variety, the untitled Minecraft show will “feature an original story with new characters, showing the world of Minecraft in a new light.” The streaming platform is working with animation studio WildBrain to bring the project to life.
The 2011 sandbox game is also receiving a live-action movie. The Minecraft film will star Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, Emma Myers, Jennifer Coolidge, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement.
Jared Hess is set to direct the film. The production is overseen by Mary Parent, Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Cale Boyter, Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, Vu Bui, and the late Jill Messick, with Todd Hallowell, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza, and Jonathan Spaihts serving as executive producers.
The Minecraft movie script is inspired by a screenplay by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer.
