Netflix has released a poster for Spike Lee’s new joint, the Vietnam War veteran drama Da 5 Bloods.
From Academy Award® Winner Spike Lee comes a New Joint: the story of four African-American Vets — Paul (Delroy Lindo), Otis (Clarke Peters), Eddie (Norm Lewis), and Melvin (Isiah Whitlock, Jr.) — who return to Vietnam. Searching for the remains of their fallen Squad Leader (Chadwick Boseman) and the promise of buried treasure, our heroes, joined by Paul’s concerned son (Jonathan Majors), battle forces of Man and Nature — while confronted by the lasting ravages of The Immorality of The Vietnam War.
Several veterans said in recent interviews that the US government gave them little support in the wake of the war’s end, as well as throughout their lives as ex-servicemen.
“The plight of African American service members who served in Vietnam, where they are now, why they are the way they are, this should be brought to light,” said Richard D Kingsberry, a veteran in Charlotte, North Carolina, who began his service in 1972 in the navy. “A lot of African American service members never got cared for properly after they returned, and that is a life-altering impact.”
Da 5 Bloods, Lee’s first film since his Oscar-winning BlacKkKlansman (2018), which was loosely based on the true story of a black policeman who infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan, arrives on Netflix on June 12. Lee’s forthcoming film depicts the journey of four African American former soldiers who return to Vietnam in search of their fallen squad leader and promised buried treasure.
Da 5 Bloods arrives on Netflix on June 12th and features a cast that includes Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, Isiah Whitlock, Chadwick Boseman, Jonathan Majors, Mélanie Thierry, Paul Walter Hauser, Jasper Pääkkönen, Johnny Trí Nguyễn, Lê Y Lan, Nguyễn Ngọc Lâm, Sandy Hương Phạm, and Jean Reno.
