It’s been quite the year for Niecy Nash as she packs her schedule with key roles. Nash is best known as the leading lady of TNT’s Claws. She’s expanded since then, taking on a more serious tone recently in Netflix’s When They See Us. Earlier this morning, Lifetime announced that Nash will be starring in Kidnapped: The Kamiyah Mobley Story, produced by Robin Roberts.
Deadline reported that Roberts will be telling the true story of a woman named Kamiyah Mobley, who discovered that the person she calls her mother was actually her kidnapper. She figures this out at the age of 18 years old when she tries to apply for a job but had no birth certificate or social security card.
Roberts spoke about the movie during Good Morning America.
“I’m thrilled to share this young woman’s story and produce something poignant for the Lifetime audience. I can’t imagine anyone else tackling the complex role of Gloria than Niecy Nash. She’s a talented and versatile actress and I can’t wait to see it all come together.”
Nash will be taking on the role of Gloria Williams, the kidnapper. Williams is currently serving 18 years in prison for the abduction of Mobley. Only eight hours after she was born, Williams disguised herself as a nurse on July 10, 1998 and kidnapped Kamiyah. She had just endured a miscarriage earlier in the month, resulting in her attempt to fill that void.
Co-starring alongside her are Rayven Symone Ferrel and Ta’Rhonda James, portraying Mobley and her biological mother.
