Originally ordered by HBO Max as Grease: Rydell High, the 10-episode prequel to 1978 Grease has received the green light at Paramount+. However, the series is coming to Paramount+ with a pink twist! The series will focus on Rydell High’s very own pink ladies, but before we met them in the Grease movie. The series will take place 4 years before the original Grease setting, presumably before Grease was the word.
The series will be titled, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies. The reported description for the series is, “Before rock ‘n’ roll ruled, before the T-Birds were the coolest in the school, four fed-up, outcast girls dare to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever.” It’s also reported that the series will feature additional characters and new songs.
There is still little information available on the series and there is no word on the release date. Taking into consideration that the first scrapped series was ordered by HBO Max in October 2019, we may be waiting a while before the series drops. Don’t let that news discourage you because whenever it comes, it’s bound to be epic! The series will be written and executive produced by Annabel Oakes who was already working on Grease: Rydell High, so the series is in good hands!
Get excited! In the meantime, be sure to catch up on the classic musical, Grease!
