This year’s Latin Grammys have just passed, on November 19th, 2020. This year’s awards were centered around a very special and relevant theme, “music makes us human”, which highlights how music is a helpful outlet for people to let out their emotions as well as a platform that brings many people together in times of adversity. This is very necessary right now amidst the ongoing struggle, uncertainty, and loss people all over the world are facing due to Covid-19. It’s beautiful to see the Latin musician community come together into one setting for this essential event, with numerous artists releasing new music and new artists not letting Covid hold them back. These musicians are also using their wide platform to unite people and inspire hope, positivity, and support.
One such musician who was instrumental in conveying his message through music along the hopeful, unifying vibe of the event was Pitbull. Pitbull’s peak in popularity and frequency of releasing new music has already passed quite some time ago, but he continues to be a prominent businessman and figure in the music industry. The Cuban-American star is well respected in both the American and Latin American music scene, who sort of stands as a bridging figure between those two industries. Pitbull’s attendance at the Latin Grammys was meant to pay tribute to frontline healthcare workers and to the fight against Covid-19. He showcased his brand new single called “I Believe That We Will Win” in a grand onstage performance filled with multicolored lights, a unique flashing abstract geometric background, and most importantly, he had first responders on the stage, backing him up on music instruments. He had a physician’s assistant on the bass and featured a registered nurse and a firefighter and a paramedic on the stage as well. The song title alone implies his honorable and uplifting message, which is seconded by the upbeat energy of the music. Mr.Worldwide certainly made a very special gesture that evening, and on the grandest night in Latin music!
